NCC, WorldsView Forge Partnership to Ensure Compliance on Legal Use of Autodesk Software, Copyright Works

Dr. John Asein, director general, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has assured the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WorldsView, Mr. Simon Tomilsson and his team, of the NCC’s commitment in providing a more compliant environment in the use of Autodesk software and other copyright works, to ensure good value for their intellectual investments.

This was stated during a courtesy visit on the Director-General by the WorldView boss at the Commission’s headquarters, Abuja, recently. The visit was part of preparation for the forthcoming Autodesk workshop and to explore ways of enhancing partnership between the Commission and WorldsView to ensure compliance with the use of the Autodesk software.

Reiterating Commission’s disposition to partnering with Intellectual Property (IP) stakeholders to ensure compliance and dissemination of copyright knowledge, the DG-NCC stated that the proposed workshop, apart from ensuring compliance, will be a tactical combination of the law, policy, technology and business strategies.

While assuring of the Commission’s commitment to partner with the WorldsView team to address the concerns, he disclosed that the workshop will help to build capacity on the use of Autodesk products, draw attention to ongoing infractions and help in the area of public enlightenment.

Commenting on the planned training of NCC’s Operatives by WorldsView, the DG noted that it will acquaint operatives of the Commission with the requisite technical details to optimize their operations. On the expectation of WorldsView for an eco-friendly business environment, the DG assured that Nigeria is a huge market with many users and that the NCC remains committed to ensuring that the inflow coming to right owners reflect the size of the market.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WorldsView, Mr. Simon Tomilsson in his address informed that the call for renewed partnership with the NCC is borne out of the need to address some delicate situation arising from the illegal use of Autodesk products, technological advancements and the need to develop good business practices.

He noted that Autodesk is striving to ensure that their best invention is protected from piracy through proper licensing for users and procurement of legitimate Autodesk products.

Speaking further, Mr. Tomilsson stated that the desire of partnering with the NCC in the compliance fight necessitated the training workshop.

Responding, the DG-NCC, harped on the objectives of the Copyright Act which prioritises strengthening the rights of copyright owners, implementing and enforcing their rights. He assured that as a copyright owner, WorldsView will receive frontline treatment to ensure that they run their business to derive the maximum benefit from exploitation of their works.

Dr. Asein, added that feedback strategies from the workshop will form the action plan in form of Newspaper pronouncement, letters to government agencies and private users as well as interface with online vendors which will help to improve the level of compliance for Autodesk products.

Others in the WorldsView entourage are the Worldview Chief Growth Director, Mr. David Haslam; Worldview Country Manager, Mr.  Uche Ubah and Technical Sales Manager, Mr. Abubakar Lawal.
